What is Pump Service? Why Pump Service is Necessary?


Pump service is a maintenance process for smooth pumping. Pump service is necessary to reduce the operating costs of pumping and to prevent corrosion in the pumps. Pump service may be performed when there are changes in sound of a running pump, abrupt changes in bearing temperatures, and seal chamber leakage of a pump.

How is Pump Service Performed?

·         The parts of the pump must be inspected for wear and damage. Any worn or broken components ought to get replaced.

·         The pump must be reassembled and tested to ensure that it is functioning properly.

 

When is Pump Service Necessary?

There are several indicators that can signal that pump service is necessary:

·         Changes in sound of a running pump. Changes in the fluid level of a pump's seal chambers can cause changes in sound, which may indicate that there is seal leakage.

·         Abrupt changes in bearing temperatures. If there are abrupt changes in bearing temperature or if the bearings become excessively hot, this indicates that the grease packed between the motor and the bearings is becoming exhausted and should be repacked. This requires pump service to ensure proper function after repacking the bearings with grease.

·         Excessive vibration of a pump shaft. If there is excessive vibration or noise during pump operation, this could mean that one or more of the impeller vanes are damaged or missing, requiring new installation of replacement parts for smooth running again after pump service.

Pump service and pump repair are important maintenance tasks that should not be overlooked. By performing regular pump service and periodic pump repair, you can keep your pumps running smoothly and prevent corrosion and other damage from occurring.
